Thanks so much to Laura @ The Book Corps for tagging me in this book tag!
Admittedly, my High School years are way behind me (I’m 33, so, I’ll let you do the Maths) and I mean, technically I didn’t go to this high school thing (I’m French, it’s different, okay), not to mention that for someone who can’t sit still (ADHD, anyone?) High School could be such a pain (Elementary school is SO MUCH BETTER – and no, the fact that I’m an Elementary teacher in no way influences my opinion, duh) BUT the questions are so, so fun to answer, I’m really happy to do this!

A+ on the test : A book or character that makes you smile?
I know, I KNOW, I won’t get A+ for originality but the entire cast of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda was PERF. Now I need to watch the movie. ASAP.
Sports team : A fictional family that you want to be a part of?
Class President : A book that tries to make a difference?
[TW – Rape] This one is hard because there are so many to choose from but I’ll go with What We Saw by Aaron Harzler, a powerful YA novel whose plot was inspired by the Steubenville High School rape case. The truth is, I rarely read a book that tackled the issue of rape – and more generally of sexual assault – in such honest and meaningful way. Victim shaming and blaming. Role of the medias. Guilt, shame, and oh, the heartbreak – I could’t handle it. Rage so fierce that seized my throat.
We’re all Kates. We could all be Staceys. Please let’s change that.
High School Sweetheart : A book character you have a crush on?
Ahhhh I’m SO sorry because I can’t stop repeating myself but Eugenides from The Queen’s Thief series keeps his #1 place in my heart (and will probably keep it forever, the sneaky shit).
Prom Night : A book with a beautiful cover?
… I adore The Wicker King‘s cover and what’s inside is even more wonderful, SO. You know what you have to do, okay?
Spring Break : A book you can always turn to when you need an escape?
Okay so let me cheat, alright? The thing is, if I do reread novels, it’s almost always :
- just after finishing them (why, I do not know) ;
- books that tend to… break my heart (again, don’t @ me)
Therefore I can’t really point to a novel in particular and say THIS. THIS ONE. I hope this doesn’t eject me from the Real Readers VIP Club (please keep me).
School Lunch : A book character(s) you want to have lunch with?
Genie and Quentin from The Epic Crush of Genie Lo, who’d delight me with their banter (also, perhaps we could ditch school after) (don’t tell anyone I said that, okay) (who, me?).
Halloween Party : A character you would like to be for one day?
Without doubt, Hoa from The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin : let me try the Under Rocks Road, I want to know what’s up with that. Also, I’d get to meet Essun, and she’s one of the characters I admire the most, so.
School Bully :
A villain you don’t want to go to school with? A villain you want to go to school with? (WHAT)
Talis from Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow, who definitely would have made me laugh and brightened my days with his smart-ass mouth and his unapologetic antics. I especially needed him in Chemistry – SO. BADLY. *wails*
Graduation : A book with a bittersweet conclusion?
More Happy Than Not was one of my favorite books of 2015, and I couldn’t recommend it more (and I’ll let you discover why by yourself).
